Adams-Normandie Gutter Solutionists
Gutters for Adams-Normandie’s turn-of-the-century houses
George W. Stimson subdivided this stretch between Normandie and Vermont in 1902, and builders like Percy H. Clark filled it with custom homes. City Planning describes the result as a shift from late Victorian styles toward early Arts and Crafts, with whole groupings of Shingle and Craftsman houses still standing. Van Buren Place is the best-known block, listed as its own district on the National Register of Historic Places, but Raymond Avenue, Budlong Avenue and West 25th and 27th Streets come from the same era. In the census tract around Raymond and 25th, 71.6 percent of the housing was built before 1940.
Magnolias run this canopy. Southern magnolia is the most common street tree in the city inventory for these blocks, and its thick, waxy leaves fall all year and slide right into downspouts. Jacarandas, Mexican fan palms, crape myrtles, camphor trees and Indian laurel figs fill in the rest. The rain comes in a tight window: NOAA’s 1991 to 2020 normals for the Downtown USC station count 21.4 days a year with a tenth of an inch or more, and January and February together average 6.93 inches. A layer of magnolia leaves sitting in the trough through a wet January turns into a dam.
Robinson O’Brien-Bours owns The Brothers That Just Do Gutters Los Angeles, and our crews work Adams-Normandie alongside Harvard Heights and the rest of West Adams. On these houses we check the old hangers and the wood before quoting, handle gutter repair when the metal is sound, and form new seamless runs on-site when it is not. Where a downspout empties into a narrow side yard, underground gutter drainage carries the water out toward the street. California contractor license 1140218.

What Los Angeles Homeowners Say
“I hired The Brothers That Just Do Gutters to install some gutters above my driveway. The installer was Emiliano. He did an amazing job, didn’t take too much time, was very professional, and charged a fair price. I would highly recommend this company and installer to anyone.”
Posted on Google“Brothers Gutters were amazing. Their quoting and invoicing system was super easy to work with. Hannah and Rhys who did the back end and quote were super responsive. They gave us a really fair price and got the job done a few days later. Really top quality service and work!!”
Posted on Google“We had been looking for someone to install our gutters for quite some time and thought a handyman would be less expensive and more reliable. Were we wrong…”

Southern magnolia is the most common street tree on these blocks, and unlike a deciduous tree it sheds leaves through the whole year. The leaves are stiff and waxy, so they ride the water into the downspout and lodge sideways. A cleaning each fall and spring plus BroGuard mesh on runs under the canopy keeps them out.
Yes. Van Buren Place and the surrounding Adams-Normandie blocks are full of Shingle and Craftsman homes, and exterior work in an HPOZ may need City Planning review. We give you written specs for the profile, material and color so you can confirm before work starts, then form the runs on-site so there are no factory seams.
An extension that carries water to a planted area is the quick fix. Where there is no room, we can run an underground line under the walkway and let it out near the curb or into a drainage area. Many lots between Normandie and Vermont are narrow, so we look at grade, hardscape and the neighbor’s side before recommending one.
The NOAA normal at the Downtown USC station is 14.25 inches a year, with January and February averaging 6.93 inches between them. It arrives in storms rather than steady drizzle, so the system has to move a lot of water in a few hours. With a strong El Niño forecast for 2026-27, a clean trough and clear downspouts matter more than usual.
Every block from the Santa Monica Freeway to 29th Street and from Normandie to Vermont, including Van Buren Place, Raymond Avenue, Budlong Avenue, West 25th and 27th Streets and the homes near Richardson Family Park and Vermont Avenue Elementary. We cover Harvard Heights nearby too. Phone (213) 205-6598 and we will set up a free written estimate.
