Lincoln Heights Gutter Solutionists

Gutters for the first suburb of Los Angeles

Lincoln Heights was subdivided in 1873 as East Los Angeles, the city’s first suburban neighborhood, and residents voted for the Lincoln Heights name in 1917, the same year the old Eastlake Park became Lincoln Park. A good share of that early housing is still here. A house on Griffin Avenue dates to 1887, the Lemberger-Sigler Residence on Manitou Avenue to 1897, and the Church of the Epiphany on Altura Street to 1883. Census figures for ZIP 90031 show 43.4 percent of homes built in 1939 or earlier, with a median build year of 1948. On houses that old, the wood behind the gutter is usually the first thing we look at.

Two things decide how gutters behave here. One is the street trees: the StreetsLA inventory counts Mexican fan palms as the most common in Lincoln Heights, followed by Indian laurel fig, London plane and jacaranda. Palms shed fronds and fruit stalks, plane trees drop broad leaves every fall, and jacaranda covers roofs in purple blossoms in late spring. The other is the hillside blocks. CAL FIRE’s 2025 map rates the area around Lincoln High, Gates Street, Manitou Avenue, Altura Street and Avenue 35 Very High, and under the California WUI Code section 504.4, in effect since Jan 1, 2026, buildings in Fire Hazard Severity Zones need noncombustible gutters.

Robinson O’Brien-Bours owns and runs The Brothers That Just Do Gutters Los Angeles. Across Lincoln Heights and neighboring Montecito Heights, our local crew rolls out seamless gutters from the machine on the truck, clears palm and fig litter by hand, rebuilds rotted fascia on Victorian eaves, fits BroGuard micro-mesh on the hillside homes, and sets downspouts so winter water heads for the street instead of pooling against old foundations. Before the 2026 to 2027 storms, our El Niño prep guide covers what to check first. Licensed in California under contractor license 1140218.

Lincoln Heights Gutter Questions, Answered

My Lincoln Heights Victorian has rotten wood behind the gutter. What happens?

We find out how far the rot goes before anything else. Often only a few feet of fascia or a couple of rafter tails need replacing, and we note it in the free written estimate with the gutter work. New wood gets primed, then the seamless gutter goes up on solid backing. Hanging a new gutter on soft wood just moves the problem a few years down the road.

Is any of Lincoln Heights in a Fire Hazard Severity Zone?

Yes. CAL FIRE’s 2025 Local Responsibility Area map rates Lincoln High and the blocks around Gates Street, Manitou Avenue, Altura Street and Avenue 35 Very High, with High and Moderate areas nearby. The California WUI Code section 504.4, effective Jan 1, 2026, requires noncombustible gutters on buildings in Fire Hazard Severity Zones. Flat blocks such as lower Griffin Avenue and Main Street by the Brewery are not zoned. Check your exact address on CAL FIRE’s map.

Do palm trees really clog gutters?

They do, just differently than leafy trees. Mexican fan palms, the most common street tree in Lincoln Heights, drop dried fronds, fruit stalks and small seeds. Fronds lie across the gutter and dam it, while seeds wash down and plug the downspout. Trimming helps, and BroGuard mesh keeps the seeds and fiber out of the trough.

Should I get half-round gutters on an older house?

On a Victorian or early 1900s house, half-round copper or colored aluminum often looks right and drains well. K-style holds more water for its width and suits many later homes. We bring samples, look at the roofline with you and put the options in writing so you can choose.

Which parts of Lincoln Heights do you cover?

All of it, within ZIP 90031: North Broadway, Main Street by the Brewery, Griffin Avenue, Workman Street, the streets around Lincoln Park and the hill blocks up to Avenue 35, plus Montecito Heights next door. Call (213) 205-6598 or book online and we will write up a free estimate.
