Mid-City Gutter Solutionists
Gutters for Mid-City’s century-old neighborhoods
Mid-City covers about 3.47 square miles between Pico Boulevard and the Santa Monica Freeway, and some of the oldest planned neighborhoods on this side of town sit inside it. Victoria Park’s houses mostly went up between 1910 and 1915 around a palm-lined circle, in Arts and Crafts, Craftsman and Tudor styles. Lafayette Square opened in 1913 with 236 homes on eight blocks around St. Charles Place, and Wellington Square followed just south of Washington Boulevard, filling in with Spanish, Tudor, Craftsman and French Norman homes through the 1920s. Houses that old have deep eaves, decorative rafter tails and fascia that has been painted over for a hundred years.
Mid-City’s street trees are heavy on palms. StreetsLA counted 5,829 of them in the neighborhood council area, led by queen palm, southern magnolia, jacaranda, Canary Island date palm and Mexican fan palm. That adds up to fronds, palm fruit, big magnolia leaves and jacaranda bloom in the gutters at different times of year. Rain is the other half. Downtown’s NOAA station averages 14.25 inches a year, and 9.41 inches of that comes from December through February. In the 1997-98 El Niño, downtown took 31.01 inches, and the 2026-27 season is shaping up to be another strong one. On flat blocks between Venice and Washington, overflow sits against the foundation instead of running off.
The Brothers That Just Do Gutters Los Angeles is owned by Robinson O’Brien-Bours, and our crews work Mid-City and neighboring West Adams all year. On historic homes we form seamless runs on-site, offer copper gutters and half-round profiles that suit the architecture, replace rotted fascia first, clean by hand and add BroGuard mesh under palms and magnolias. Our El Niño gutter preparation checklist covers what to do before the first storm. Licensed by California (contractor license 1140218), bonded and insured.

Yes. Many Mid-City houses in Victoria Park, Lafayette Square and Wellington Square date from the 1910s and 1920s. We form K-style or half-round seamless gutters on-site in copper, colored aluminum or bonderized steel, and we can match the color of your trim. If your street is in an HPOZ, we can talk through options before you submit anything to the city.
Usually palms. Queen palms are the most common street tree in Mid-City, and they drop fruit and flower stalks most of the year, while Canary Island date palms shed heavy fronds. Southern magnolias add thick leaves that block downspouts. A cleaning before the rain and BroGuard mesh keep most of it out of the trough.
It depends on the metal and the fascia behind it. If the gutters are sound and only a seam or two leaks, repair is fine. If you find rust, several leaks and soft wood, replacing with seamless runs is the better move. On Mid-City homes we often replace the fascia first, then hang new gutters.
Clean the gutters before December, test every downspout, and check where the water goes on your lot. In the 1997-98 El Niño, downtown Los Angeles took 31.01 inches, more than double a normal year. Flat Mid-City lots cannot shed that much water on their own, so extensions or underground drainage are worth a look.
Yes. We cover Mid-City from Pico Boulevard down to the Santa Monica Freeway, including Victoria Park, Lafayette Square, Wellington Square and the streets around Midtown Crossing and Vineyard Recreation Center, plus West Adams nearby. Book online or phone (213) 205-6598 for a free written estimate.
