Gutters for Del Rey’s postwar blocks near Ballona Creek

Del Rey sits low on the old Ballona flats, between Culver Boulevard, Centinela Avenue and the concrete channel of Ballona Creek. This was farm and dairy land into the 1940s, and most of the houses you see on Braddock Drive, Inglewood Boulevard and the side streets around Bill Rosendahl Del Rey Park on Alla Road went up in the postwar boom of the late 1940s and early 1950s. That means a lot of single-story homes with long, low eaves, original fascia boards and gutters that have been patched more than once. About 32,000 people live on 2.7 square miles here, so lots are tight and a downspout often empties right beside a driveway or a neighbor’s fence.

The street trees tell you what ends up in the gutters. StreetsLA’s count puts queen palm first, followed by jacaranda, southern magnolia, Mexican fan palm and lemon bottlebrush. Palms drop fronds, fruit and flower stalks, magnolias shed big leathery leaves all year, and jacaranda bloom turns to sticky mush in late spring. Rain is light most of the year, about 14 inches at the nearby NOAA station, but most of it falls from December through February. When it does, flat lots near the creek have nowhere for overflow to go. Ballona Creek was straightened and paved in 1935 after years of flooding, and it still takes runoff from about 130 square miles on its way to the bay.

The Brothers That Just Do Gutters Los Angeles is owned by Robinson O’Brien-Bours, and our crews work Del Rey and neighboring Mar Vista every week. We hand-clean and flush systems, replace tired runs with seamless gutters formed in your driveway, swap rotted fascia, add BroGuard mesh under palms and magnolias, and reroute downspouts away from slabs and side yards. We hold California contractor license 1140218 and are bonded and insured.

Why the Brothers

Why Del Rey Homeowners Call the Brothers

01Built for palm and magnolia streets

We know which trees on your block shed what, and we size guards and cleaning schedules to match.

02Drainage for flat, tight lots

Downspouts get extensions, splash blocks or underground lines so water clears the slab and stays off the neighbor’s side yard.

03Respect for postwar houses

Original fascia gets checked and replaced before new seamless runs go up, so the gutter has something solid to hang on.

04Owned locally, easy to reach

Del Rey Gutter Questions, Answered

My Del Rey house still has its original gutters. Repair or replace?

Many Del Rey homes date from the late 1940s and early 1950s, and the gutters on them have usually been patched several times. If the metal is sound and the fascia is solid, repairs make sense. If seams leak in several places or the fascia is soft, a new seamless run costs less over time. We show you both options in writing.

Do queen palms really clog gutters?

Yes. Queen palms are the most common street tree in Del Rey, and they drop fronds, flower stalks and a lot of small orange fruit that packs into downspouts. Mexican fan palms add dried frond pieces. We clear it by hand, flush each downspout, and BroGuard mesh keeps the fruit out so it cannot build up between cleanings.

Where should my downspouts drain on a flat lot?

At least a few feet from the slab and never against a fence or a neighbor’s wall. On flat lots near Ballona Creek, water has nowhere to run off, so we use extensions, splash blocks or an underground drainage line to carry it to the street or a spot that can take it.

When is the best time to clean gutters in Del Rey?

October or November, right before the rain. Most of the area’s roughly 14 inches falls from December through February, so a clean system then does the most good. If you have jacarandas nearby, a second visit in late spring catches the bloom before it dries into mats.

Do you serve all of Del Rey and the streets near Mar Vista?

Yes. We work every block in 90066, from Culver Boulevard and Braddock Drive to Inglewood Boulevard, Centinela Avenue and the streets around Del Rey Park, plus Mar Vista next door. For a free written estimate, call (213) 205-6598 or book online.
